Happy Birthday Card

As I was looking through the cards I've made over the past couple years; I realized that I only have 2 birthday cards. I am not setting a goal to make more birthday cards!

This is my first birthday card I made in a while. The paper line is My Minds Eye Ashbury Heights. I just love the gold accents on this paper.

Mother's Day Cards Post 2

2nd post for Mother's day cards.

On this card I again used the SSS Flowers on My Mind stamp set. I've really fallen in love with this set. I love that the feel of the card can change by the different colors of ink you use.

Sentiment came from a Hero's Art set, it didn't have a name, but I will try to link to it below.

Second card for this post, I wanted to try the foiling techniques that have become really popular lately. I had this butterfly and pink foil paper in my stash for a very long time. The butterfly is a sticker that is sticky on both sides.  Like I said I've had them in my stash for a long time, so if you don't have this kind of sticker, you can always use the new techniques to add foil that are on the market.

I wanted to add a little bit more interest to the card, because it looked a bit bland with just he butterfly. So I added some stripes using a brush stoke set form Paper Smooches and some Recollections pearl embossing powder. Then I added a couple of Recollections pearl gems.

Mother's Day Cards Post 1

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted anything. I'm trying to actually send out cards that I make, so I have a lot of Mother's day cards to share. I've been trying new techniques and color combos, to see what I like and what I don't like. I am only going to post 2 cards per blog post, just to keep it simple and not create a 20 page post.

The first card I have to share is the one below. I used two Simon Says Stamp card kits, I use the February and March 2015 kits. The card stock and pattern paper comes from the February card kit.

I loved the subtle triangle background on it. The flowers are from the Flowers on my Mind stamp set that came with the March card kit. I stamped them on vellum using Versa mark Ink and then used Recollections detail white embossing powder. I like the really simple feminine look of the flowers this way. For the sentiment I used the SSS Happy Birthday die, but on the happy. I die cut it out of plain white card stock 3 times and a soft pink card stock once. I then layered them together to add dimension. The written sentiment is from my computer, I chose a font I liked, and printed if off and then made a fish-tale banner.

My next Mother's day card, I again used the same SSS Flowers on My Mind stamp set. I really liked the black and yellow color scheme of the March Kit, and decided to run with it.

I also used the SSS Envelope Sentiment stamp set for the bow, and then drew in the small horizontal string with a black marker. Again I used a sentiment that I printed out, and the Happy stamp from SSS Holiday Sentiments. I then used fun foam to pop up the two side panels.

Simon Says Stamp January Card Kit

Here are the two cards that I've made using the January Simon Says Stamp card kit.

The first card is a winter card for one of my friends that does not celebrate Christmas, so instead of sending here a Christmas card. I made her a Winter themed card. 

I used the supplies from the card kit and a couple other SSS exclusive products. I will post links to the products later. 

The second card I made is a simple Thank You card for another friend. 

For this card, I only used supplies from the kit, with the exception of the white embossing powder, which was from Judikins white embossing powder. 

Journey Art Journal Page

This is one of my first attempts of art journaling. I've made some that turned out really bad, and some ok. This is the first one I think turned out really well.

The quote is "The Journey isn't over, it just changed course". I used the Tim Holtz. Postal Idea-Ology tissue paper. I glued that all down using Liquitex Gloss gel, you can get a matte gel, but I like the sheen of the gloss on my projects.
After the tissue paper was dry, I used some Tim Holtz Distress paints in Mustard Seed and Rusty hinge and the tissue paper.
I then stamped the arrow border using the My Mind's Eye Snapshot stamp set, and Ranger Archival Sepia ink. Because the Sepia ink was light, I then traced over the arrows with one of my Faber-Castel PITT brush pens in brown. I used a Heidi Swap stencil and Liquitex Modeling paste for the white arrows; I couldn't find a link to the exact stencil I used, but I did link to one that is similar.
For the quote I used Lawn Fawn's Quinn's ABC's to cut out some Recollection brown card stock, and then used a small alphabet stamp for the smaller letters. I don't know where I got the small alphabet stamp set, or what the brand is. I think it's just one of those inexpensive sets you can get at any craft store.
I also free-hand cut the brown card stock arrows, and glued them down with the Liquitex Gloss Gel.

Overall, I think it turned out nice.

Co-Worker Christmas Gifts

I finally figured out what I was going to do for the traditional Co-worker Christmas gifts. I don't know about you, but I sometimes have a hard time deciding on what to give. I don't bake, so baking cookies is out of the question. And making homemade caramel sounds like a bad idea, I think I would want to eat all the caramel instead of giving it away.

This year I decided to do a simple card inspired gift.

It's the size of an A2 card, but I made it into a pocket to hold a packet of hot chocolate mix. I don't have the name of the paper line I used, But I will make sure I update this post with all that wonderful information.I have about 20 co-workers, so I made 20 different cards.

Update: The paper line I used was DCWV Candy Cane Lane, it was the 12x12 stack I used, so it came with the different tags and cards that you can see on the packs. That's one of the nice things about using a 12x12 paper pad, you know everything will coordinate beautifully, but also, you get a couple pages of tags and cards.

As for how I made the pockets, I used Recollections 110 lb white card stock and cut it down to a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch, side folding card. I then cut a couple strips of scratch paper to about 1 x 2 1/2 inches and 1 x 1/2 inches. I scored the small pieces of paper in half lengthwise and used them to close the card. It's kind of difficult to explain, so I will post some pictures later.
For the flap, I don't have an exact measurement. I put the envelope piece in my Martha Stewarts' score board, so that the paper would be at an angle, and scored at where I though would be a good place. Not really scientific, sorry.
I chose some papers from the paper pad, and cut all those down, to sizes I would need. For the plain red paper in the back I cut it down to 4 x 3 1/2 inches, no need to cut the paper to the whole 5 inches, no one will see it anyway, and it's a good way to stretch your supplies. I then cut 4 1/8 x 3 1/2 inches squares, and made them into triangles, I only used one square for each card, because I wanted the card to look like there was patterned paper on the inside. I also cut a large panel for the front, and chopped off a bit of the right corner, so there wasn't any bulk.
Putting together these were pretty easy, I created an assembly line, so I wasn't spending a lot of time on each one.

I think they turned out pretty cute, for putting them together late Sunday night.

Holly Jolly Santa Belt

Today I have a really simple card.

I used Recollections 110 lb card stock as the card base. I then cut a 5 1/4 x 4" panel of Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red card stock. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Candy Cane Christmas, I stamped it with Versa Mark ink and then used Judikins white embossing powder. 

The ribbon is from Recollections, I cut a small strip of ribbon, and taped the ends behind the panel. I then used EK Success foam squares to attache the Schoolhouse Red card stock to the card base.
